MESSAGE FROM KCS ASSOCIATION

Are you looking for someone to do odd jobs at your place of business? If the answer is yes, kcs can be the solution you are looking for with our Persons with Disabilities Program.

Q -Who is kcs Association and what is the Adult Services Program?

A - kcs Association is a not-for profit organization in Sylvan Lake.  We have three main programs: Pre-school and Early Intervention; Family Supports for Children with Special Needs; and Adult Services.

Q I’ve never heard of this.  How long have you been in Sylvan Lake?

A We were established in 1978 and Adult Services was added in 2010.  We serve the Sylvan Lake area.  We currently have about 150 children enrolled in our Pre-school/Early Intervention program and about 35 families and Adults in the Family Supports and Adult Services Programs.

Q Are you looking for someone to do odd jobs or casual employment.  If the answer is yes, we can help.

A At kcs Association, we have several adults who are looking for employment experience.  They each have a support worker who assists them in this capacity.

Q What kind of jobs can these individuals do?

A. They can work in a variety of ways.  They can shred that build-up of paper that is sitting around the office that no-one ever has time to deal with.   They can wash windows, empty trash bins, do general cleaning or even take care of that cluttered storage room that needs attention. We have adults that are good at stocking shelves, stuffing envelopes for that big mail-out campaign, and even carpentry  or painting.  We have artists that you can engage to do artwork, some that is currently on display.

Q. How often do I need to call them? What type of schedule is required?

A. Some organizations have one of our adults come in once a month or once a week.  It can be a regular schedule or a one-time opportunity.  Your organization can even choose to hire one of our individuals on a full-time or part-time basis if the role and responsibilities are a good fit.

Q. How do they get paid?

A. Your organization pays them minimum wage for the number of hours they work, following all of the applicable Labour Standards Laws.  The salary of the support worker is paid by kcs Association.

Q. What about Worker’s Compensation?

A. Both the adult in our program who would be working for your organization and the support worker are covered by WCB.  The adult is covered by the government as this is a government program and the support worker is covered by kcs Association.

Q, Why would I hire an individual from kcs Association?

A. We have eager, reliable, talented people waiting and wanting to do those jobs that no one finds time to do.   So not only does the job get done, but importantly, you are giving back to your community by supporting our program and giving our kcs supported individuals an opportunity to gain work experience and skills.

Q. What if I need more information?  What if I am not sure if a job fits your program or is appropriate?

A. Give us a call or send us an email and we would be happy answer your questions and discuss this opportunity.  For information, please contact Amber Bott, Adult Services Director at (403)896-1905 or email amber.bott@kcs78.ca.
